Community Engagement: Resource Fair & Housing Panel

Unity in the Community Nonprofit participated as a resource vendor at the Community Resource Fair & Housing Panel held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Gethsemane United Methodist Church,
910 Addison Road South, Capitol Heights, MD 20743.

During the event, Unity engaged directly with community members, providing information on affordable housing opportunities, housing readiness, and available support services. The event also created space for meaningful dialogue around housing challenges and solutions through the housing panel discussion.

Participation in events like this reflects Unity’s ongoing commitment to community presence, partnership, and expanding access to housing resources where they are needed most.

Unity Homes in Monroe, Louisiana

Our CEO, Dr. Darby, recently traveled to Monroe, Louisiana to visit Unity’s affordable housing properties currently under construction. During the visit, he toured active project sites and met with potential families who will have the opportunity to transition into homeownership through the Unity Homes Program.

In addition to site visits, Dr. Darby attended a Planning and Community Development proposal meeting to better understand local priorities. This engagement ensures that both current and future housing developments are aligned with the needs of the community.

OUR NEW PROGRAM: Revitalizing Communities

As part of the Unity Homes Program, Unity in the Community Nonprofit is advancing its Revitalizing Communities initiative. This effort focuses on identifying underutilized or distressed properties, rehabilitating them, and returning them to the market as quality, affordable homes.

Through this model, Unity is not only increasing access to homeownership but also contributing to neighborhood stabilization and community reinvestment. Each property represents a step toward reducing housing gaps while creating pathways for families to purchase homes at attainable price points.
